Huawei to Train 10 Nigerian Students on ICT in China

TEN Nigerian youths are on their way to China for a first class technical training on (ICT) skills through the support of Chinese technology vendor company, Huawei Technologies.

They were selected from the top 40 semi-finalists in the on-going ‘ICT for Change Program’ which is an empowerment program designed for graduates of Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, ICT, Civil and Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics and other ICT related courses.
The training which drew participants from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) was flagged off on November 10, 2016, with a firm commitment by the Chinese firm to sponsor the top 20 finalists on further technical training in China.
In keeping to their pledge, Huawei selected 10 students based on their performance and interview score to proceed for further training in China from the September4 to 17 , 2017, while the remaining 10 shall be selected upon completion of the program. The essence of which to avail the students with practical knowledge, promote a greater understanding of and interest in ICT.
The company said that it has also trained 1, 345 youths under the program in 15 batches of training held in Abuja and Lagos Huawei training centres.
Participants were trained on telecommunication power system; Information and Communication Technologies Fundamentals; Huawei Certificated Datacom Assistant; and Base Telecom Station and Microwave Installation.
Speaking to journalists, some of the successful further training nominees expressed joy to have scaled through the final selection process while lauding the firm for giving back to the society.
One of the trainees in her remarks, Miss Rita Udoh, thanked Huawei Technology for the opportunity given to participants to develop their skills, saying the intensive training was an eye opener for her to the wonderful opportunities in the ICT sector, even as she thanked the firm for their transparency throughout the whole selection process.
Similarly, another candidate Mr Muhammad Umaru, noted that the programme has equipped him with great skills on the ICT, even as he lauded the richness and thought provoking nature of the curriculum.
