JUST IN: NCC Introduces E-Services Platform for Type Approval Certification with New Payment Rates

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has introduced an E-Services Platform for for obtaining the communications equipment type approval certification.

In a document released by the Commission and sighted by TechnologyMirror, the NCC stated that commercial grade sample of the equipment are Notebooks, tablets and mobile phones adding that only “samples of other devices can be requested from applicants if and when necessary and all samples are retained by the Commission.”

The new application method required that companies visit and register with the following details: Company RC/BN Number, Company Tx Identification Number and Email address before proceeding to register their equipment.

According to the document, compliance with Radio Equipment Directive (RED) 2014/53/EU Equipment for Type Approval being brought to Nigeria for Equipment Authorization must conform to the RED Directive which replaces the old
Radio equipment and telecommunications terminal equipment R&TTE Directive 1999/5/EC.

The Commission further stated that all application must show text and other documentation assuch RF (Radio Frequency), SAR, EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility), Health and Safety) obtained from an accredited test laboratory which must be in accordance with RED Directive.

The NCC disclosed that it has updated its pricing scheme in line with the E-Services noting that specific type approval fees (VAT and admin excluded) are:
a. Mobile Phone is $1,800.00 per model
b. Tablets is $2,500.00 per model.
c. PC/Laptop is $3,500.00 per model

The document explained that depending on the equipment specification, the Type Approval fee may be as high as $20,000.00 saying that applicants are at liberty to pay in Naira (₦) or the USD ($) equivalent at the prevailing Central Bank of Nigeria exchange rate on the day of invoicing.
