The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has given telecoms operators currently providing satellite based communications services without the requisite Frequency licenses to regularize their position within six months.
The NCC in a statement warned that operators that failed will be sanctioned adding that the Commission will take necessary regulatory actions against defaulters.
The NCC further directed that all Space Segment Satellite Operators that beam their satellite signals over Nigerian Territory and provide non-last mile satellite communications services that have not obtained the requisite landing rights permit must do so immediately.
The NCC disclosed that the Landing Permit does not authorize Space Segment Operators to provide satellite based communications services directly to last mile users, but they can provide services to local telecom operators licensed by the Commission to provide services to last mile users.
The statement which was issued by the Director of Public Affairs of the NCC, Mr Reuben Muoka noted that the local telecoms operators shall have an Operational License and one or more of the Network frequency licenses listed on its website.
He warned that the Commission will take necessary regulatory action against any Space Segment Satellite Operator that does not comply with its guidelines.
