By The Lagos State Government plans to host world-class data centers, providing the backbone for scalable, innovative solutions for the state by next year event as it has also promised to extended the Lagos’ fiber-optic network by an additional 1,200 kilometers over the next year, to complement the existing 2,500 kilometers.
The State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in a keynote address delivered at the Art of Technology Lagos 6.0 with the theme: “Al & the Lagos Digital Economy”, assured that both telecoms infrastructure development will significantly boost connectivity for businesses, schools, and residents stressing, “these projects are not just about infrastructure—they are about empowering our people and driving sustainable development across sectors.”
He told tech savvy Lagosians at the event, which had TechnologyMirror as its media partner that fourteen government agencies have already digitized citizen-facing services, ensuring greater transparency, efficiency, and accessibility, adding that the state through its Enterprise Architecture Project, is harmonizing data systems to prepare for AI-driven service delivery.
The Governor who was represented by his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat said that the innovations will ensure faster responses and smoother interactions between citizens and government saying that the Lagos State Science, Research, and Innovation Council (LASRIC) has supported over 65 startups and 75 research projects across Lagos.
The disclosed that this year alone, LASRIC has committed ₦1 billion to innovation funding noting the unveiling of the Lagos Digital Service Platform, a transformative tool that embodies state’s vision of accessible, transparent, and efficient governance.
Sanwo-Olu said that the future of Lagos lies in its people, “and we are equipping them with the skills to lead in the Fourth Industrial Revolution” stating that the Digital Leap Program aims to train 50,000 Lagosians in cutting-edge skills such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, coding, and cloud computing.
While making commitment to the sustainability, he said that state through the Vision 2052 build a Lagos that epitomizes modernity, inclusivity, and innovation adding that the long-term development plan focuses on:
- A thriving economy, powered by innovation.
- Modern infrastructure that supports a Smart City vision.
- Effective governance that adapts to the needs of its people
- A human-centric approach that ensures no one is left behind.
