By The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is making a major regulatory intervention in the Nigerian telecoms industry with an adjustment of the present telecoms tariff plan.
The NCC said it plans to introduce new tariff plans for telecom operators on December 13, 2024.
According to the NCC, the decision is part of its strategy of simplifying telecom services, reducing confusion about data and airtime usage.
Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr Aminu Maida said the new tariff plans will limit telecom operators to a maximum of seven tariff plans.
This change is designed to provide relief to telecom consumers and clarify misconceptions regarding data and airtime usage.
The NCC has also addressed complaints about data depletion, stating that the type of phone used plays a significant role in data consumption.
To educate users on choosing devices that suit their needs, the NCC is running awareness campaigns.
These changes aim to create a clearer and more consumer-friendly telecom market in Nigeria. The NCC’s efforts to simplify tariff plans and promote transparency are expected to benefit telecom consumers nationwide.
