Last night in Lagos, South West Nigeria, at the Nigeria Mobile Economy Summit and Expo, (NiMES) it was lots of encomium for the just retired Director of Public Affairs, Nigeria Communications Commission, (NCC), Mr. Tony Ojobo who was named the recipient of the ICON of African Information Society Merit award.
Much of the encomium came from the Minister of Communications, Mr. Adebayo Shittu who praised him for his role in the fight against on unsolicited text message in Nigeria’s telecoms sector and how his tenure at the NCC brought a lot of innovation that has today made the industry a source in Africa.
The Minister who presented the award to Ojobo said that although he got to know about his retirement described Ojobo stride in the sector and his input to the development of the telecoms industry in Nigeria as a thing of joy the Ministry urging those he is leaving behind in his department learn from commitment to duty.
Excited Ojobo who previously had been honoured in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city at a valedictory service organised by the staff, management and board of the Commission praised God His goodwill in all that he achieved during his 18 years tenure at the NCC.
The former NCC spokesman of the Commission who honoured alongside his ex-boss, Prof. Umar Danbatta with the ICON of Nigeria Mobile Economy, went down the memory lane stating how he started his career in the nation’s telecoms industry starting from the defunct NET and terminating at the NCC saying that he will forever be grateful to all who made his contribution to the growth of the industry possible, particularly the media.
Founder of Centre for Cybersecurity Awareness and Development, (CECAD), organisers of NiMES, Dr. Bayero Aganbi said that the award came as result of the huge impact has had in the less than decade stay at the NCC saying that CECAD will reward and recognise those who have great impact on the growth and development of the industry
