By When you fly either on local or international route, every airline by law allocates specified kilogram of luggage space to every passenger to use for free, and thereafter every excess luggage is paid for by the traveler.
Very often some passengers do not exceed the volume of kilogram allocated to them while some do often exceed it which is results to payment for excess luggage.
The good news is that for those who do not exceed the allocated kilogram of luggage, they can now monetize it and make easy money while travelling.
A group of Nigerian businessmen based in Europe, today unveiled an application that can allow every flight passenger to make money from the unused kilogram of luggage allocated.
Speaking at the unveiling of the application known as Ozi, the Chief Technical Officer of the team behind the 10 years old dream, Engr. Christian Chime, said that the dream to have an app that allows flight passengers to make money from unused kilogram of luggage allocated began when he was faced with the problem of going to the airport and looking for any passenger that can help him take parcel for him to his destination.
According to him, although sometimes he gets to someone to take the parcel for him, but at other times the parcel was taken from him at of pity saying that “Initially, when we discussed with some of the people who wanted to invest with us and after we put the initial code, they were like, okay, let’s start in the UK. But because we are Nigerians, we saw that it’s, instead of us to start this thing in the UK or in the US, we decided to bring it to Nigeria.”
So what is the app about?
In his words: “If your weight is over the required kg, you are entitled to baggage allowance. As a traveler, you have 15 kg. And then if you’re travelling international, most times you have 20, 23 kg. That’s 46. But most times, like I was coming down here, I have 46 kg that was empty.
“We then come up with a solution where people can decide to give up their baggage space and earn money while they are travelling and help someone to deliver something. So, that’s where Ozi comes in. So, what we want to do or what Ozi is trying to do is to connect people.”
According to him, Ozi was designed “to connect people in such a way where money and convenance come to play” saying, “with Uzi, what we are going to do or what we have done is to have a solution where travelers can come on board.”
Explaining further, Chime said: “For instance, I have a flight back to Amsterdam in a couple of days’ time. I put up my flight details and say, okay, I’m going to Amsterdam. I have 20 kg worth of space. And then somebody who desperately or somebody who genuinely have a need to send something over to somebody over there can reach out to me and say, hey, yeah, I see you’re going to Amsterdam.
“I have a smartphone I want to deliver to somebody. I have crayfish I want to give to somebody. You know, I have a pair of shoes I want to give to somebody over there. Of course, we agree on where we want to meet. We recommend you. We leave that to your discretion to meet, you know, in a secure place and make it most convenient for you.”
Commenting also on the app, which is due for unveiling in January 2025, the Co-founder/COO of Ozi.
Mr Zubike Augustine, said, “From today, travelers across the globe can sign up through www.ozionline.com and start making every trip count.”
He said, “We have put measures in place to ensure only genuine and verified travelers or senders use the platform. Security is primary for us”.
