NDPC to Unveil App Design for Better Understanding of Data Protection Law Soon

The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), is developing a solution that would help Nigerians easily understand the data protection.

National Commissioner/CEO of NDPC, Dr Vincent Olatunji, who made this known today during a policy dialogue on the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023, held on the sideline of the National Privacy Week, said the Commission is developing what he called, developing the General Application and Implementation Directive (GAID).

According to him, the GAID would help to simplify and explain various sections of the law for easy comprehension, noting the essence of awareness and capacity building in the emerging ecosystem.

The Policy Dialogue, which was  jointly organised by NDPC, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and the European Union (EU) Commission gave the Commission the opportunity to underscored the significance of the policy dialogue.

Olatunji noted that the Nigeria Data Protection Act is a pivotal instrument in Nigeria’s data protection landscape saying, “now that we have the law, what next? This question forms the essence of the policy dialogue.”

He stated that the commission has released the Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (SRAP) for the years 2023-2027, stating that the roadmap resonates with the 8 point renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the 5 pillars of the new national Digital Economy blueprint.

He added that the expectation from the workshop are conversations and recommendations for effective implementation of the NDPA, especially in the area of emerging technologies, considering the laws and regulations to drive them.
