AI App Download in Nigeria Hits 15.8 Million 2025 Amid 7% AI Adoption Rate Same Year, Lowest Globally

Despite ranking 62 in the global AI country ranking, Nigeria has maintained a consistent rise in the total number of AI app downloads on a country ranking basis. Adoption is likely diluted by the large population size and limited by access to the internet.

Nigeria is among the three lowest-performing countries analyzed in AI adoption, with just a 7% AI adoption rate in 2025 but as at 2023 it had a download of AI app of 1.2 million according to the latest report by Cybernews

The figure went up from 1.2 million download in 2023 to 15.8 million in 2025, an indication that Nigerians are daily deploying AI tools for all manner of uses, most of which are found in the social media space.

As at 2023, the AI adoption rate in Nigeria was just one percent, moving to seven percent by the end of 2025, the Report stated.

On the AI App download and adoption rate, Poland and Venezuela fall behind Nigeria with 2.5 million and 1.9 million AI App download rate respectively.

The report noted that small, agile, digitally advanced populations tend to rank higher in adoption, and countries with larger populations and less developed digital infrastructures take longer to adopt technologies.

Also, countries leading AI adoption in 2025, such as Singapore and the UAE, introduced national AI strategies well before the rise of generative AI tools like ChatGPT. By integrating AI into public services early, their governments accelerated institutional use, increased public exposure to the technology, and built trust over time, creating conditions for faster nationwide adoption.
