The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Nigeria Plc, Dr Karl Toriola has described 2025 as a defining year for MTN Nigeria, that was marked by a return to profitability, strengthened financial resilience and renewed momentum in our long term investment programme.
According to him, for the year ended 31 December 2025, our total subscriber base increased to 87.3 million, up 7.9 percent, while active data subscribers increased to 53.2 million and data traffic grew by 34 percent during the year, reflecting sustained demand for digital services across the country and “our continued investment in network capacity to support that growth.”
He noted that these figures speak to the pace at which digital connectivity is becoming central to daily life and underscore the need for sustained investment in network capacity and resilience.
He explained that the company invested One trillion Naira in network expansion and modernisation, which more than double the prior year’s capital expenditure adding that this investment translates to additional base stations, deeper fibre rollout, expanded capacity and improved network resilience across the country because sustaining critical digital infrastructure requires disciplined capital allocation and a deliberate long term approach.
“In light of our strengthened financial position, the Board has approved a final dividend of 15 Naira per share bringing the total dividend for the 2025 financial year to 20 Naira per share. This proposal reflects improved balance sheet stability while preserving our commitment to sustained reinvestment in the business” he stated.
He however said, “We are mindful that in a period of economic pressure, expectations from customers are heightened. When Nigerians purchase data or rely on our network for work, education, financial services or daily communication, they expect reliability, fairness and continuous improvement. That expectation is both legitimate and central to our responsibility.”
“Profit, in our context, is not an end in itself. It is the mechanism that enables continued investment in network quality, broader coverage and enhanced customer experience. As Nigeria’s digital ecosystem continues to expand across fintech, small businesses, education and public services, resilient and future ready telecommunications infrastructure remains foundational to national development.
“We remain committed to operating with transparency, regulatory compliance and a disciplined investment philosophy that keeps the customer at the centre of our decisions while strengthening Nigeria’s digital future”, he said.
