NCC Boss Earmarks Priority Areas for 2026, Says Consumers’ Interest, QoS Top on Agenda

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), said its mayor concern for the telecommunications industry in 2026, is better quality of experience for consumers, delivered through a fair, competitive, and sustainable market.

In a New Yeatr message, the Excutive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Dr Aminu Maida noted that the Nigeria’s communications sector remains central to how we live, work, learn, and do business.

According to him, the NCC’s shared expectation for the year ahead is simple but critical adding that  when services are reliable and affordable, trust is built; when investment is stable, networks expand, innovation thrives, and more Nigerians can participate meaningfully in the digital economy.

Reflecting on the ended year, Maida said that the year 2025 marked a turning point saying, “Investment momentum returned, network expansion accelerated, and measurable improvements were recorded across coverage, capacity, and performance.”

He added: “Broadband subscriptions grew to over 109 million, median download speeds improved significantly, and 4G and 5G coverage continued to expand nationwide.

“Major initiatives such as Project BRIDGE are strengthening Nigeria’s digital backbone, while closer collaboration with institutions like the Central Bank of Nigeria is already delivering tangible consumer benefits, including refunds for unsuccessful airtime and data transactions.”

Commenting on the challenges of 2025, he said that “Infrastructure constraints, and uneven service quality in some areas remind us that progress must be deepened and sustained.”

The head of the Commission further said that “In 2026, our focus is clear: better protection and value for consumers, a predictable environment for investment, and a resilient, secure communications ecosystem that leaves no Nigerian behind.”
