By Nigerian Government has laid over 5,000 kilometers of fibre optic cable across 28 states, connecting state capitals, federal institutions, MDAs, and private sector players.
According to the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Galaxy Backbone, Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, these level of infrastructure ensures that startups, government institutions, and businesses have access to facilities once exclusive to global tech giants.
Adeyanju, who made this known in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria while speaking at the 15th edition of the ICTEL Expo 2025, harped on the robustness of GBB’s infrastructure, which includes a 24/7 Network Operating Centre (NOC) and a state-of-the-art Security Operations Centre (SOC), offering comprehensive cybersecurity coverage including threat detection, endpoint protection, and brand integrity monitoring.
“But we are not stopping at routers and cables. We are building a platform for digital governance”, he said.
He stated that Galaxy Backbone is not just a service provider, “we are nation builders,” he said, highlighting the scale and scope of the company’s impact.
He revealed that Galaxy Backbone manages and operates Africa’s largest publicly owned Data Centre network, with facilities certified by the Uptime Institute as Tier III and Tier IV, ensuring global standards in design, resilience, and operational sustainability.
He underscored Galaxy Backbone’s central mandate of designing, deploying, managing, and expanding the digital infrastructure for government and the broader digital economy.
Adeyanju who spoke on the critical role of digital infrastructure in fostering innovation and sustainable development noted that Galaxy backbone is “one of the largest digital connectivity investments in Nigeria’s history.”
Earlier in his opening remark, the President and Chairman of Council of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Mr. Gabriel Idahosa, commended stakeholders for their continued support and noted that this year’s theme, “Leveraging Technology for Innovation and Development in Africa,” is both timely and essential for the continent’s growth trajectory.
