By The value of Nigeria’s data protection ecosystem now stands at whooping sum over N16.2 billion while the Nigerian Data Protection Commission (NDPC) generated over N5.2 billion in compliance revenue in the last two years of its operation.
The National Commissioner of the NDPC, Dr Vincent Olatunji, who dropped the news during a virtual media chat yesterday further revealed that the expansion of compliance monitoring across public and private sectors resulted to the registration 38,677 DCPMIs while 307 licensed DPCOs have so far been registered.
According to him, over 8,155 Compliance Audit Returns have been filed with 246 data protection and privacy breach investigations concluded saying that 11 enforcement actions including fines and remediation directives concluded by the Commission.
He further stated that the Commission initiated a multi-sector compliance drive, issuing compliance notices to 1,348 entities in August 2025 across the banking, insurance, pension, and gaming sectors, strengthening engagement and informing enforcement actions.
Reflecting on the NDPC global achievement, he said that Nigeria is now an international cooperation and investment destination.
“Increased attractiveness of Nigeria as an destination for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) due to the presence of an independent data protection authority which is a critical requirement for international business confidence and cross-border partnerships”, he said.
Looking forward into 2026, Olatunji said that NDPC plans to increase awareness on data protection and privacy, intensify the enforcement of the provisions of the Nigeria Data Protection Act and take appropriate actions against non-compliant organisations.
