By The Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa have harped on the need to embrace digital stressing that emerging digital tools are already reshaping crisis response.

Inuwa spoke while the National Symposium on Digital Innovation in Crisis Communication at the National Defence College Abuja, where he focused on the urgent realities of today’s information space.
He explained that research consistently shows false news spreading almost six times faster than verified information, a trend that has already caused major economic disruptions.
He cited recent incidents where misleading posts triggered significant losses within minutes, reinforcing the need for rapid verification and coordinated intervention.
Inuwa also highlighted progress made through ongoing collaborations with global digital platforms. More than 28 million fraudulent accounts have been removed, along with thousands of harmful posts, reflecting improvements in monitoring and content moderation.
He stressed the importance of building stronger local review frameworks, improving real-time detection of harmful content, and implementing safeguards that protect privacy while ensuring truth and public safety remain at the centre of Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
