NCC Issues Fresh Mandate to Telecoms Operators on Deliberate Investment, Expansion, and Resilience

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has given telecommunications operators a fresh mandate to foster an industry that is not devoid of quality of service.

According to its New Year Message, issued by the Executive Chairman of the NCC, Dr Aminu Maida, the Commission noted that the operators remain the engine of investment and innovation in this sector.

While reassuring of the determination of the Commission to work with them, Maida said: “but we will also hold you accountable, because the consumer’s experience must improve stressing that operators must invest deliberately in expansion, capacity and resilience.

The NCC boss further urged the telecos to reduce avoidable outages while strengthening incident response plans, and ensure transparent communication with consumers during service disruptions by clearly explaining the cause, actions being taken, and realistic timelines.

He harped on simplifying tariffs and improving pricing clarity in line with regulatory guidance saying that they must upgrade customer care and complaint handling, treating complaints as critical feedback.

Maida called for the protection of the integrity of the ecosystem, including timely settlement with critical suppliers and complying with the guidelines on corporate governance for the industry as well as other extant regulatory obligations.
